Why is it important to support the Ontario Forage Council?
Forages play a vital role in every facet of Canadian life, yet their importance is often overlooked.
On a national basis, Canada's hay crop has an estimated annual value of more than $1 billion.
From an environmental perspective, forages improve soil structure and fertility for cash crops, and they are essential for soil conservation.
By pooling the resources of all interested groups, the Ontario Forage Council will help improve on-farm production and use of forage. Forages have a direct bearing on the cost-efficient production of milk and livestock, and on soil conservation. The benefits are enormous! Livestock and forage producers will improve both productivity and profitability through the introduction of improved forage varieties, balanced fertility programs and efficient management techniques.
The Ontario Forage Council is the voice of forages - through research and development, identifying forage issues and implementing policy position statements for sustaining the forage industry.
It will take teamwork to achieve all the goals of the Ontario Forage Council, so come aboard and help promote forages throughout the province and across Canada.
